In this post, we provide a list of child friendly black hair salons. In the previous post guest author True Colours Flo shared a mother’s nightmare experience at a central London hair salon due to the hairdresser’s lack of customer service, poor timekeeping, and below average knowledge of natural hair.  Feeling the mothers pain we decided to put together a  list of child friendly black hair salons.

Going to a black hair salon should be an enjoyable experience where a talented and professional hairdresser pampers and styles your hair to perfection.  However, this was not the case in the previous post where a mother ended a hair appointment and left the salon with her girls’ hair half done. In order to avoid a similar traumatic encounter from happening again, we asked some UK hairdressers for advice on how to find quality child-friendly Black Hair Salons.

Questions parents should ask before taking their children to a salon

Tip Top Salon, winners of the best customer service at the Good Afro Hair and Salon awards 2017, advise parents to ask ahead whether they cater for children, what products they use and whether they are safe on children’s hair. They also suggest looking on the salon website before visiting. They said, parents should inform the salon that your little one has multi-textured or afro kinky natural hair. In addition, parents should thoroughly explain their requirements and ensure that the salon fully understands before booking an appointment. Lastly, parents should research their styles and read reviews.

Salon ABV recommends having an initial consultation and diagnostic examination of the hair. This will help to decide on the type of treatment required for any hair type. Some of the questions to ask are, the types of treatments the salon provides; the products they use; and what determining factor they use when deciding the treatment required.

Ziuzo Hair Beauty Fitness recommends being specific about the child’s hair type and questions whether the salon provides hair care services for children with natural afro and multi-textured hair, to avoid any surprises upon arrival. They also recommend asking if the hair care range is gentle enough for children. Additionally, parents should also ask about separate charges for children, whether the environment is child-friendly, and whether there are custom styles for different hair types.
