Miss Great Britain DJ Mystikle Blue is someone we had the pleasure of meeting at our pop up at NatWest bank. She has fantastic news, that she’s is a contestant for Miss Great Britain and we want to share with you!

DJ Mystikle Blue

Mystikle Blue, (real name Jemma Yoloye) is a DJ, radio presenter, singer-songwriter, producer, journalist and now Miss Great Britain DJ Mystikle Blue is a Ms Great Britain 2020 finalist. She has a strong desire to even out the lack of representation for African Caribbean natural hair which is often deemed as not professional and not beautiful.

St. Kitts & Nevis

I moved to St.Kitts in the Caribbean, the birthplace of my mother. I completed my secondary school studies and then returned back to the UK to study a BTEC Diploma in Computer Programming. Whilst studying Computer Programming, I attended another college in the evening to study Sound Engineering and Production, whilst working a part-time job. After Completing both courses at two different colleges, I decided to take a break from studying and pursue more musical aspirations, where I eventually found a passion for DJ’ing too.

ONLY female finalist of King of the Decks

I am the first and ONLY female finalist of King of the Decks 2011 after winning the West Midlands Region, the first and ONLY female finalist of the Smirnoff Decks champion 2012 after again winning the West Midlands Region heats and finals. I’ve interviewed musicians such as Kid Ink, B.O.B, Mack Wilds, Wretch 32, Benga, owner of the Wireless Festival Steve Homer, Jordin Sparxx, Jay Sean, Boyz II Men, Jah Cure, Wayne Marshall and Flo Rida to name a few.

Beauty Pageant With Natural Hair

This year I decided to do something outside the box. Instead of being disheartened by the lack of representation in the media of beautiful black women with their natural hair. I thought, why not be the representation myself. I became more inspired to do so after taking part in the Project Embrace campaign this year and meeting so many strong black women, each passionate about the beauty of their hair they were born with.

Miss Great Britain has a new category for older women to participate, with a motto about “being great”. So, it’s not just about beauty, I thought I’d dive in, take a chance and take part. This is especially after having a heart to heart with my mum. After I was having difficulty finding a sponsor, is now my sponsor. Having that sort of belief in what I stand for and what I believe in is amazing. My mum is supporting me 100% through this journey and that adds to my fuel to keep on driving.

As a Ms Great Britain finalist, I also have a responsibility to raise money for two chosen charities. They are Cancer Research UK and Alex’s Wish. As someone who has family members suffer from cancer, I hope I can raise as many funds as possible. You never think that cancer will affect you until it comes close to your door. It completely turns your life upside down. So yes, I hope by raising funds I can help them to find a cure for cancer.

The Day Job

  • Currently, I work full time for RBS.
  • I am a resident DJ at Nightingale and
  • A part-time postgraduate student.

I believe that you can more than achieve your goals. You just have to work hard (but of course take a rest when you need too)
